Stimpod Therapy
STIMPOD NMS460
The Stimpod NMS460 electromagnetic therapy is a non-invasive, non-drug treatment. The Stimpod’s patented waveform is delivered transcutaneously and affects the cellular metabolic activity of a neuropathic nerve.
It is a Low Frequency Neuromodulation Trancutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation device, used for symptomatic relief and management of chronic intractable pain and/or as an adjunctive treatment in the management of post-surgical pain, post traumatic acute pain, as well as an adjunct for pain control due to rehabilitation.
The Simpod NMS460 offers two types of waveforms for the treatment of pain. The first is a Monophasic Square Wave, which is typical of normal TENS machines. The second waveform is a Hybrid RF waveform which consists of a Monophasic Square Wave with a superimposed Radio Frequency waveform. This waveform is proprietary and is unique to the SIMPOD NMS460.
The induced electromagnetic field propagates as short bursts and travels along the axons to the spinal dorsal horn, restoring intra-neural communication pathways and natural nerve functionality.
The therapy is delivered by a pen-like stimulation probe which is placed on the skin, often near the nerve that is associated with a patient’s condition.
The sensation of the electrical pulses can vary depending on the underlying pathology from ‘no sensation’ to a sensation similar to a light pinprick.
A treatment session can last on average 5 to 10 minutes per affected nerve. Most patients see positive results after the first two sessions, and depending on the condition treatments range from two sessions to eight sessions.
Typical Electromagnetic Therapy Session
The practitioner enquires about your relevant medical history, followed by your description and identification of your area of pain. The information is used by your practitioner to formulate your diagnosis.
Once you identify your area of pain, the most suitable Algiamed’s treatment protocol is selected for your treatment. The practitioner locates an appropriate stimulation site and applies conductive gel to the treatment area.
The practitioner then finds the nerve requiring treatment using the pen-like stimulation probe. This entails moving the pen around the skin surface whilst an electrical pulse is delivered. Depending on the condition, the sensation of the electrical pulses can vary from ‘no sensation’ to a sensation similar to a light pinprick.
While searching for the nerve, the practitioner adjusts the current to best accommodate your level of comfort. After locating the nerve, you might feel a sensation referring down the path of the nerve along with a contraction of the muscle which is supplied by the treated nerve.
The practitioner relies on your feedback to find a current intensity which is most comfortable for you. If the stimulation site is too sensitive, please inform your practitioner so that he/she may find a more suitable treatment location.
At this point, the practitioner starts the treatment which typically lasts around five minutes per site of treatment during which you are exposed to a sequence of light electrical impulses traveling directly and exclusively along the targeted nerve.
Upon completion of the session, most patients experience significant improvement. In some cases, there can be a delayed effect and, only in isolated cases, the symptoms of the condition briefly intensify whilst the healing process starts to take effect.
It is vital for you to follow your practitioner’s recommendation regarding follow-up sessions in order to achieve optimal restorative effects.
